Picking & Freezing Tips

Blueberries

When looking for blueberries, they should be firm and dry.  The skin should be smooth and deep blue. Fresh blueberries can be stored from 10 and 14 days and they need to be washed before serving. To freeze, spread the berries in a single layer on the cookie sheet and freeze solid. Transfer frozen berries to plastic bags.

Raspberries
Raspberries are ripe when they slip off the stem into your hand without resistance. They are one of the most fragile fruits and need to be refridgerated as soon as possible to preserve freshness and avoid mold. Raspberries can be stored in your refridgerator for 1-2 days. Berries should be frozen or mixed into a recipe or dessert as soon as possible.  Black raspberries or black caps are sweet and aromatic. They are full of Vitamin C and potassium.

Coming soon... Blackberries
Blackberries will be ready soon! We will let you know when they are ready for picking.

Based on data from the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (Boston, MA), blueberries are among the fruits with the highest antioxidant activity. Recently, researchers at Tufts University analyzed 60 fruits and vegetables for their antioxidant capability. Blueberries came out on top, rating highest in their capacity to destroy free radicals.  These age-defying anti-oxidants have been proven to help fight heart disease and cancer!
