SPRING/SUMMER 2008
EDUCATIONAL TOUR
A New Growing Season is here and it’s time for a Great Day on the Farm! Greetings to all our old and new school friends! We are looking forward to having your children and students come out to our farm to touch, hear, see and smell a little of agriculture and have some fun doing it. We believe it is important for all children to learn about how and where their food is grown, and have the opportunity to experience picking fruit at a real working farm.
In case you have not heard of us, Brown’s Berry Patch is an 8th generation family farm market located midway between Rochester and Buffalo near Lake Ontario in the heart of apple country. We are noted for our pick-your-own berries and ice cream in the summer, and apples and pumpkins in the fall. Our family has been farming here since 1804.
Our intentions are for each class to have already learned a little about pollination, blossoms, fruit, and farming. We have a prepared program, but we would really like to answer any questions you may have about fruits, vegetables or livestock in coordination with your class studies ranging from Pre-K – 5th grade.
Our program will feature:
| |
- A narrated hayride through our farm’s orchards and fields.
- A discussion about how Farmer Brown grows Strawberries, Sweet Cherries, Raspberries, Blueberries, Apples and Pumpkins, including pollination, photosynthesis, nutrition and horticulture. This discussion is adjusted to the age of students and teacher requests.
- We will pick Strawberries, Raspberries or Blueberries, to take home, depending on the time of year and weather. We reserve the right to make substitutions due to availability of pick-your-own fruit. (Prior to berry season a small ice cream cone will be substituted.)
- We will visit our Farm Animals and learn a little bit about them.
- Free time in Barnyard Adventure lots of fun activities…see the Barnyard Adventure page. (This is a good time for adults to shop inside our market.)
- The Barnyard Jump is the newest attraction in Barnyard Adventure. It is big enough for your entire class to all jump at the same time! See the Barnyard Adventure page.
- Have lunch outside at our picnic tables. (Tents are also available in case of bad weather.) Bring your own bag lunch or we can provide one for a fee. Add on a small ice cream cone for only $2.00.
- Bring your camera because this is a great spot to take a class picture and preserve a memorable day.
- Each child will receive a Free Return Barnyard Adventure Pass for a return trip.
- Lots of Great Memories and learning experiences for your students and families!
